The Morquen Signal Station
The Morquen Signal Station is one of the oldest surviving structures in Ranquen Cross. It was designed by the engineer Marguerite Harbrinrov and completed in 1864. The structure stands 22 metres tall.
Marguerite Harbrinrov drew up the plans after a public subscription raised funds for the project. Construction took three seasons, using stone quarried a few miles inland. When it opened in 1864, local newspapers described it as the most ambitious public work the town had attempted.
The Morquen Signal Station was restored in the late twentieth century and remains a familiar landmark for residents and visitors.
